    Would you like to find out more about how you can help yourself to manage your condition and feel more in control of your health and wellbeing?

    Macmillan Cancer Support, in partnership with cancer services in North Wales, organises regular Health and Well-Being Events, offering a wide range of information and support. They are free and anyone affected by cancer will be very welcome – including patients, family and friends.

    Events will offer information and support on:

    • Diet, physical activity and lifestyle
    • The possible long-term effects of treatment
    • Fatigue management and emotional support
    • Benefits and financial advice
    • Access to local support in your area

    There will be an opportunity to speak to professionals and meet others who may have had a similar experience.

    You are welcome to come with a family member or friend.

    If you have or have had a cancer diagnosis Macmillan’s free self-management programme, HOPE, can help you set positive goals for your future.

    Supported by two trained HOPE facilitators it’s a great opportunity to meet people who have also had a personal experience of cancer and explore together proactive ways of taking control of your health and wellbeing.

    You can attend no matter what stage you’re at, whether your cancer treatment finished some time ago or you are currently receiving it.

    How will the programme benefit me?

    The HOPE programme aims to help you:

    • Feel more able to share your experiences with others
    • Feel able to recognise your own potential and enhance your happiness and quality of life
    • Feel more confident in dealing with anger, depression and uncertainty
    • Increase your ability to handle stressful situations
    • Learn how to use relaxation methods to refresh the mind and bodyKnow how to make plans and achieve goals that can help you makes changes for the better

    How long does the programme last?
    The programme is a two-and-a-half day programme.

    The Cancer Thriving and Surviving Courses are free and designed to help people manage the impact of cancer.

    The courses take place in community settings. Each session is for two and a half hours, once a week and the whole course lasts six weeks.

    Workshops are facilitated by two trained leaders, one or both of whom are peers who are cancer survivors themselves or who are affected by someone who lives with the condition.

    Subjects covered include:

    1. techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain, isolation, poor sleep and living with uncertainty
    2. appropriate exercise for regaining and maintaining flexibility, and endurance
    3. making decisions about treatment and complementary therapies
    4. communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals
    5. nutrition
    6. setting priorities
    7. relationships
